You have prediabetes, big time.

We feel this video is a great way to set the stage to explain what WE DO. If you’ve watched it, you know that even bacon lovers are at risk of developing type 2. Now, you might be thinking… “Why bacon? Why not use doughnuts as the example in the video. After all, don’t carbs cause diabetes?” Ahhh, and there it is. There are over 89 million people at risk for prediabetes in the U.S. (93% are unaware that they are), and there are probably over 89 different misconceptions about how we get diabetes.

Fact: Type 2 diabetes isn’t caused by eating bacon or doughnuts (i.e. carbs and fats).

Yes, in excess, both of these can contribute to the development of prediabetes and type 2. Overall, we’d say that a person becomes at risk for type 2 diabetes when their lifestyle no longer provides for their body’s needs. These “needs” can be different for every person, but if changes aren’t made, the outcome is very similar – a lifetime of type 2 diabetes.

What do we do?

We help YOU prevent type 2!

We currently offer virtual and in-person, evidence-based diabetes prevention programs to stop the progression of prediabetes into type 2 diabetes.

 Making Prevention Possible

Passing prevention from generation to generation

The DPP (Diabetes Prevention Program) is called many things – a lifestyle change program, nutrition class, support group for people with prediabetes, etc. – but most importantly, it is an opportunity.
Life can be filled with regrets- woulda, coulda, shouldas. Sometimes we can pinpoint the exact moment in which a different decision would have made a lifetime of a difference. Well, this could be one of those moments. If you are at risk for type 2 diabetes (i.e. have prediabetes), you are on an expressway headed towards “diabetesville”. It’s one of the most overpopulated and expensive places you could imagine, BUT you’re not there yet. We are giving you the opportunity to not just “exit”, but also, turn around and head back towards a happier and healthier life.

There are few times, we can “turn back time” and undo some of the damage we’ve done in our lives, but this is one of those times. First, you need to recognize that YOU- not time, money, friends, our family- are the one at the wheel and in control of this decision. Just remember, chances are you’re not alone, and your decision is also choosing the destination for your family.

If you are ready to regain control and take back your life, we (the Skinny Gene Project) will do what we can to remove any barrier or roadblocks that might be in your way (e.g. Lack of time, money, or support).

When possible, we offer financial assistance for our programs so preventing diabetes (for you and family) is not a financial decision; it’s a health decision.
