San Diego Half Marathon

March 12, 2017

Join Team Skinny Gene at the San Diego Half Marathon, relay and 5k on March 12, 2017!

The San Diego Half Marathon is a premiere race that takes place in America’s finest city, but what makes it truly unique is that the race donates 100% of net proceeds to chosen charities. Since 2014, the Skinny Gene Project has been one of the race’s chosen non-profit organizations and has used these funds to launch prevention programs around the city.

Come run, walk, volunteer, or simply share this event with friends. You can help make a difference!

Love Your Heart Day

February 11, 2016

Our partner in prevention, the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation, is hosting Love Your Heart Day throughout the county. The goal is to provide over 30,000 blood pressure screening in one day to increase San Diegan’s awareness of their blood pressure values, and the role blood pressure plays in heart disease and stroke.

In addition to physician offices, clinics, and hospitals, the program will include community-based screening outreach at libraries, churches, community centers, and other non-medical locations in order to include populations who have difficulty accessing medical care.

Action in Motion: Making Strides to Prevent Diabetes and its Complications

The Skinny Gene Project attended the 2016 annual meeting of the Diabetes Coalition of California to learn about advancements, at a national and state level, in diabetes prevention, policy, and care. The event, held at the beautiful California Endowment in Los Angeles, provided the opportunity for organizations from around the state to discuss both challenges and opportunities that exist in health care.
