New Skinny Gene Healthy Wishes Program Turns Birthdays Into Opportunities to Prevent Diabetes

Summary: The Skinny Gene Project announces the launch of their new program- Skinny Gene Healthy Birthday Wishes. The Healthy Wishes program turns birthdays into an opportunity to help others prevent diabetes. The new program gives participants the chance to create an event surrounding their birthday that will have a rippling effect that positively impacts the health of their community.

 

The Skinny Gene Project Encourages the Diabetes Prevention Community to Vote in Hopes of Winning a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant

Summary: The Skinny Gene Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes, is encouraging the diabetes prevention community to vote during the month of November to help the organization win a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project. Winning the grant will enable the Skinny Gene Project to launch a diabetes prevention and nutrition education program in another community.

 

The Skinny Gene Project Announces Voting Eligibility on November 1, 2010 to Compete for the $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Project Grant

Summary: The Skinny Gene Project, a division of the J. Moss Foundation dedicated to preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes, was selected as a national prospective candidate to receive the $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Project Grant. Voting for the next round of 1,000 new applicants vying for their opportunity to win a Pepsi Refresh Grant will begin on November 1, 2010.

 

Cooking Up a Healthy Home: New Mom-Centered Program Uses Education to Fight Diabetes and Childhood Obesity 

Summary: Non-profit launches a new program, Skinny Gene Healthy Mommas, on Facebook to engage moms in conversations about the importance of creating a healthy home to prevent type 2 diabetes and fight childhood obesity. Beginning July, 2010, under the direction of the Skinny Gene Project Registered Dietitian Emily Barr, the Skinny Gene Project will offer free or low cost nutrition education classes to teach current or aspiring Healthy Mommas how to incorporate nutrient-rich foods into their family’s diets.

 

Non-profit Organization Gets Recognition for Spreading Message in Innovative Ways 

Summary: The Skinny Gene Project is an #influenceSD 2010 nominee for non-profit of the year. To support diabetes prevention and promote the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, the public can vote the Skinny Gene Project up the nomination list until March 24th. The top 5 nominees in the non-profit category will advance to the final judging round.

 

National Diabetes Awareness Month: The Impact of Generation X&Y on Diabetes Prevention

Summary: In honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month, the Skinny Gene Project launches a 12-month campaign that challenges others to rethink the way they perceive and approach diabetes prevention. The objective of the campaign is to empower Generation (Gen) X&Y to play an active role in preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes.
